Tuesday Tips and Techniques: Mix More Paint Than You Think You’ll Need

by Paint Tube 1 Minutes

Today’s painting tip comes from Shuang Li’s “Fearless Waterscapes.”

When you’re mixing color for a large wash or for a type of object in your painting (like your trees for example), mix more paint than you think you’ll need.

It’s better to have more paint than you need than not enough paint. That way you can use that mixture across your piece to create harmony. If halfway through you have to mix more paint then (1)  that mixture will be slightly different and (2) while you’re mixing it, your paper will dry.

Why risk the headache? Just mix more than you think you’ll need before you begin. Easy as that!
