Diane McClary: Desert Verbena

Video Length: 40 minutes

IMPRESSIONIST’S JOURNEY III – PLEIN AIR PAINTING, DESERT VERBENA

A favorite subject for many artists are flowers….in vases, on the table, and in fields. In this DVD Diane goes en plein air to paint a landscape that includes a field of desert verbena.

The key teaching elements in this DVD are:

  • Simplification: How to capture the essence and definition of clumps of flowers/bushes without resorting to painting every petal and leaf.
  • Composition: How to improve your composition by including objects that do not exist in the scene, but can be pulled from other places around you.
  • Panting sand/ground: How to create just the right value, color temperature and interest in both the foreground and in the distance.
  • Painting mountains and trees in the distance and successfully incorporating them into your color harmony and composition.
