Carl Dalio: San Diego Harbor

Dancing with the Brush is a series created by artist Carl Dalio where he demonstrates his entire painting process set to music. He designed the videos to inspire and encourage students' own imaginative discoveries and interests. Each video includes a beautiful collection of uplifting music scores- without boring artist commentary!

The harbor in San Diego, California is teeming with a bounty of sailing enthusiasts and their treasured, marine vessels. At the close of a long day of coastal exploration, I captured several reference images of sailboats with my camera. This watercolor is my own interpretation of a sailboat group in one of my reference photos. Composing and simplifying the subject, I relate the calm and peaceful atmosphere of sailboats at dusk on a color saturated, liquid field.
