PleinAir Magazine - Single Issue

WRITE A REVIEW

Published bi-monthly, PleinAir magazine is focused on landscape paintings by historical and contemporary artists, art collections, events, and the process of creating plein air paintings. Beautifully designed with rich reproductions on high-quality paper, PleinAir features the top artists and artworks from around the world.

The French term en plein air means “in the open air,” but it’s come to represent the art of painting outdoors on location. Though plein air painting has been practiced for generations by such  such as Rembrandt, John Constable, Claude Lorrain, Thomas Gainsborough, and others it was popularized by the French Barbizon School (1830-1870), a movement of painters named after the village of Barbizon, near Fountainbleau Forrest, where artists like Jean-Francois Millet, Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot, Theodore Roysseau, Charles-Francois Daubigny, Jules Dupre, and others gathered to paint. The popularity of plein air painting grew increased with the invention of tubed paint and portable easels in the mid-19th century, and a group of artists who worked outdoors to capture natural light. Claude Monet, Camille Pisarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir were among those who promoted painting en plein air. Many French, American, Russian, Chinese, and Canadian impressionists followed the practice, which has endured and become enormously popular today.

Wow! Fantastic magazine!

My first issue of Plein Air arrived yesterday and I am bowled right over the moon! The quality of the issue-content, paper and printing, even the ads - are gorgeous, intelligent and exceed all expectations! Which were quite high! While not new to art, I’m so new to plein air painting I’ve only been outside the studio one time (!!!) but was instantly hooked and am looking forward to many years of sunburns and mosquito bites!

It’s all about community!

I look forward to Plein Air’s arrival each month and love it. It’s how I stay connected to the plein air community and really appreciate knowing what artists are up to. I have been to the convention a couple of times and to the painting weeks with Eric Rhoads. I also enjoy the virtual conferences, too. The magazine keeps that energy alive and lets me know what people are up to in addition to competitions, travel and workshop opportunities. The technical articles are invaluable and I cherish every issue I’m sent. Streamline is a class act, as always and anyone reading the magazine picks up on that in one glance - the quality of paper used bespeaks that as well! Thank you, Streamline!

Article: The Reality of AI

The article in the March 2024 titled The Reality of AI was worth my entire subscription. Every artist should read it. Plein Air is so much more than just a pretty art magazine.
