While this is a shorter video than i usually get it is full of great insights for Plein Air painting. His approach is direct and you don't have to guess about what he wants to accomplish. I really enjoyed Clides simplified approach.
Clyde Aspevig is one of the best painters in this country. This plein air demo is is an example of how he simplifies the process - intent, composition, shapes, values, edges, colors. His philosophy and biography are a wonderful addition. I love his and Carol’s concept of land snorkeling.
Clyde is an amazing artist and this video goes beyond the typical 'how to' approach used in many art videos. Clyde shares many of his insights, some technical aspects of painting, and gives reasons why art is important to humanity. I highly recommend getting the dvd combo because the painttube app did not work well for me.
I just finished watching this demo with Clyde Aspevig and it was one of those videos that actually changes how you see. His colour mixing is spot-on—so faithful to the real outdoor light—and he touches on so many useful aspects of plein air painting along the way. The standout for me was his point about clouds reflecting what’s happening in the scene below… huge “aha.” Definitely a rewatch (more than once), and I can see myself revisiting it before I paint outdoors.
