To capture his lovely style of painting and pass on his wealth of knowledge to new generations, Irby has filmed a video of one of his beautiful snow scenes found in the American West. Deep in the forest, fallen tree logs provide beautiful compositions of the abstract shapes nature offers us each day, and gives the artist painting fodder for a lifetime. Irby takes this scene and make it into an unforgettable tableau that one can view and appreciate every day of the year.
One of the most interesting aspects about this video is the portion that he devotes to explaining his palette, the harmonies it offers, and how to manipulate it to achieve the effect that the painter strives for. Snow scenes can be challenging in that they inherently offer a subtle, placid area for the viewer to linger and enjoy. But, controlling the color on the palette may present problems to the painter to keep the harmonies in the calm, subtle range. Irby's explanation of how to control your palette is worth the price of the video alone, and a wonderful demonstration of how to use a limited palette to your advantage.
I loved Irby Browns paintings from the very first time that I saw one in an art magazine. Then to watch him painting in his DVD and hear him commenting on his process as he painted was just great. I learned so much watching him the first time, but a hundred times more after watching a dozen times.
Excellent information providing a solid background for skill development. Loved that Mr. Brown talked his process as he demonstrated, tremendously valuable. When I have to strain to hear a speakers valuable information over the background music, I do not recommend that DVD to friends. That is the only negative that I have for all the dvds that I have purchased. Question: The deceased artist Rick Howell had published a book titled Chasing The Light as well as a DVD demonstrating his painting process. I have not been able to locate a vendor for either. If you had access and rights to sell, I would like to purchase both items.
I learned a lot about mixing winter colors and his stile of painting was a treat to watch. I learned a lot.
This is an extremely helpful instructional DVD. Irby Brown is very giving and informative instructor. I own many of the Liliedahl instructional DVDs. Recently some of your newer DVDs were produced jointly with Streamline publishing and their content was changed significantly. They include personal interview with the artist at the expense of time devoted to instruction and technique. I have not found this helpful, and would prefer to keep the earlier format.
LOVE it! Been a fan of Irby Browns work for years. Very inspirational and learned a lot as to his style and technique.
